Update on bentopress.com
Currently kate (at) bentopress (dot) com is not working. Trying to fix. Fixed.

Also, can anyone recommend a good registrar? (Do not want: dotster.com nor godaddy.com.)

ETA: Thanks for the recommendations! I finally settled on Moniker.com, which got excellent reviews for customer service, has a clean UI, and specializes in REGISTRATION (which is what I needed) rather than hosting and all those other related services.

Yay for wanting to avoid godaddy!

I've been using domaindiscover.com for a while and am happy with them.

Just don't use Register.com. They managed to screw up our company's email and website access when their DNS server errored out, and their Indian help desk wouldn't believe us. We were down for three days until I could force a registrar switch.

We've been very happy with Tigertech. Very few problems, great response (from real people!) when we've had questions. We use them for hosting as well, but I think they can do just registration.

I use eNom for the registrar for our church - or actually, the guy who had that task before me did, and it gets paid through the zombie shell of his former company. Very strange. But I think eNom is reachable separately. They were pretty fast about making the domain-to-provider mapping.

Also, just read your story in the latest Friesner paperback collected-themes. I would buy a book built around that story seed.

Oh, Witch Way to the Mall is out? Cool. I haven't seen a copy yet.

There are two more stories in that universe, coming in the next two Friesner suburban-fantasy anthologies (Strip Mauled, about werewolves, and the third, untitled, about vampires) and I really should see if I can put them together into a novel...

Absolutely do! (I picked it up at B&N Saturday.)

For buying/managing domain names, I've heard name.com is good (and am considering using them myself Real Soon Now).

For hosting domains, I've heard good things about 1and1 and webs.com (which has a free ad-showing option and a cheap $15/year? non-ad option). I am also considering one of those Real Soon Now.

Registrars
Well, I've been very happy with my registrar for years, but I'm not sure it'll do you much good. At AlexLit, we decided at one point to register about thirty domains all at once, which meant that BulkRegister was just barely comparable cost-wise to whatever the alternative was at the time. They were acquired by eNom, although the current site no longer mentions this. I've certainly appreciated BulkRegister's tools over the years, although I'm not their typical customer, with a mere 17 domains under my management, instead of hundreds or thousands. {grin}

Re: Registrars
Oh, I suppose it's also relevant that another difference between my situation and most people is most of my domains' canonical name server is my home server.

hokay - i'll bite - why *not* godaddy or dotster? If both are stable, I don't get it... (i'm looking into registering a couple of domains and the info would be useful :>)

I am transferring away from Dotster because their web UI sucks, their customer service sucks, and there's no way for me to unify the various services I have from them into a single billing so it's easier to just start over somewhere else. I want to avoid GoDaddy because this whole kerfuffle began when GoDaddy-based domains started rejecting emails containing my URL as spam, which indicates that their spam filtering is draconian and unintelligent. See above for others' comments on which registrar to use. See also http://registrarjudge.com/ for reviews. Good luck!

I've had no trouble with pairnic.net
