Get yer geek on!
Last night we went to the Jonathan Coulton concert at the Aladdin. Paul and Storm opened, as usual, and ukulele goddess Molly Lewis was also in attendance. We went with square dance friends Bo and Don, who'd never even heard of JoCo before, and they were so thrilled by the performance that they said they want to go to w00tstock when it hits Portland in May. Mwah hah hah. We started off the evening with dinner at The Lamp, the divey-looking bar next to the Aladdin Theatre, where the food was better than you might expect and we got to go straight into the theatre after dinner, so win.

The highlight of the evening for me was when all four of the artists performed a live version of Fingertips from They Might Be Giants' album Apollo 18, immediately after which they auctioned off the cheapo bass guitar they'd bought especially for this performance. I've never heard this bit done live before and it was a hoot and a half.

Many, many friends in the audience. A good and geeky time was had by all.

I saw them Friday night in Seattle where they also did Fingertips. Most of the show is already on youtube via Seattle Geekly or you can find a couple of the videos on a posting I did just a while ago.

I tried to talk The Child into going to the Aladdin show with me but she's not quite ready for the nerdvana fest that is a Paul & Storm and Coulton show.

w00tstock looks like fun--Coulton won't be there but Will Wheaton will be.

Someday I'll get to a show at the Aladdin.
