No more failures please
Both cars failed to start during last week's freeze. Fixed.

Heated towel rack went cold. New one ordered.

Kate's iPhone went black and refused to start up. Fixed by Genius Bar.

iPod nano nonresponsive. Brought back (for now) by fiddling with lock switch.

Mac mini refused to read or eject CD or even to acknowledge existence of drive. CD extracted by brute force, tape placed over slot to prevent problem from recurring (I very rarely use the optical drive on that machine).

That's all in the last WEEK. Can we hold off for a while now, please?

I noticed it's all technology-related and not health-related. Whew!

Yeah, they're all very much first-world problems. Still, enough already.

Ah, but by whom?

and why should you . . .
. . . be any different from the rest of us? In November my Ionic Breeze air purifier, which has worked like a trooper for 18 years, died (Hmmmm that one may be justified); my boom box refused to either give back my cd or play it; my camera needed a new battery or it wasn't going to give the film back; my cordless drill died; and just this morning my electric kettle refused to heat water (at three to four pots of tea a day, this is a serious crisis!).

I think this is going to be an ugly month.

Re: and why should you . . .
Well, of course, things do fail, but I think both of us have seen more than our share lately!

My November started this way: On arriving in Sydney, attempt to burn down house with step-down(up?) converter for power to my laptop. Laptop saved, converter in flames on wooden back porch of house (a quick throw). First morning: attempt to burn down house with step-down(up?) converter - this one provided by my host - for my beard trimmer, taking out all power to that side of the house, on both levels. Took me an hour to find the breakers (out the front door!) I spent the next few days, waiting...

May you have nothing else to wait for!
