It's going to be an interesting week
The floor guys arrived this morning at 8am. Carpets have been taken up and the revealed floors look great!

We will be spending much of this week out of the house, at a B&B nearby, due to noise and fumes.

Also, I will be working on Grimm today and tomorrow. I am a stand-in this time, not an extra, which will be a new experience for me. I probably will not wind up on television this time, but I bet I will spend a lot more time on-set than I ever did as an extra.

On Friday, PDX GEAR Con, Portland's steampunk convention, begins. I will be on a bunch of programming Friday and Saturday, and I'll post my schedule as soon as it's finalized.

Somewhere in there I will try to get in at least 500 words of writing a day. It will not be easy...

I see the one old patch that appears to have been made when a wall was moved a bit, but in general, it looks like a good foundation to work from!

See you in a couple of weeks!

We thought that might be there, and the good news is that it was patched with matching hardwood and not just filled in with plywood. It's part of the house's history.

Does the floor grate still go to a working (presumably gravity-feed) furnace?

We have a forced-air gas furnace and central air, which we put in (replacing the previous, 1950s, oil furnace) about 5 years ago. I assume the ducts and grates are the originals, but the original furnace, which probably burned coal or sawdust, was long gone when we bought the house.

Looks like the opening of My Three Sons: three pairs of shoes, and no faces.

We did this exact same thing with our duplex in Minneapolis - and discovered lovely maple hardwood underneath the carpet. We also discovered that if the floor refinishing people offer to take some money off if YOU pull all the carpet staples, decline their generous offer, because It Is NOT Worth It. Really.
